Founded by Valentine Roche in 1888, The Woollen Mills is one of Dublin’s oldest businesses, and it is still run by the Roche family – 5 generations later!

Originally selling tweed and woollen fabrics, the company has expanded to sell traditional Irish knitwear, haberdashery, trimmings for soft furnishings and a wide range of fabrics.

During the war years the company fought hard to survive and maintained its position as a well respected and trusted business partner for many struggling Irish manufacturers of tweed and woollen fabrics.

Among those associated with the business we can proudly include James Joyce who briefly (and it must be added rather unsuccessfully) acted as our sales representative in Trieste from 1906 to 1911.

Today, The Woollen Mills continues to operate a high profile retail store in the heart of Dublin, right beside the land-mark Ha’penny Bridge.  Here you will find Irish knitwear and accessories as well as an impressive range of sewing essentials and fabrics.

Meanwhile our very successful wholesale business has been relocated to Park West Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Dublin. Strictly TRADE ONLY, this operates as a distribution depot or cash-and-carry outlet; where there is easy access and lots of parking.
